Book Review: Broken by Kelly Elliott

Hi lovelies.

I have been on a book review role. I absolutely loved Broken by Kelly Elliott. It is a must read in my opinion. I am going to the Indie Author’s Down Under event on the Gold Coast and I can’t wait to see Kelly, its going to be an amazing day. I have nearly finished reading all the Wanted books that are out, and they are amazing too.

Synopsis

When a tragic accident takes Mike away from Layton, and the only other person that he ever let into his heart walked away from him, leaving his heart shattered, Layton focuses all of his time and energy into the ranch he and his brother dreamed of. He makes a vow to himself to never let love in again. The last thing Layton needed or wanted was more heartache.

REVIEW:

Wowza.. I’m a country girl at heart so this book was practically heaven for me. Kelly Elliott is just amazing. Honestly, my expressions within the novel went from Hot Damn to Holly Smokes.. quiet a lot. I loved it in more ways than one. The narrative is set in Texas, after Whitley begs her parents to let her escape with Courtney her best friend after her high school boyfriend turns out to be all types of wrong and Whitley can’t handle it anymore.

Enter.. Handsome Country heart-throb, Layton. Layton is the type of guy that keeps his promises. Which I love. He promises to take care of the land although when his brother dies and girlfriends deserts him, whats left is his broken heart. The thing I love about Layton and this duo POV is that we get insight into both portrayals of the characters.

Universes collide when Layton and Whitley meet. I love the narrative of their initial scene where Layton and Whitley meet, it’s just like opposites attract except way hotter. Layton and Whitley lock horns like cowboys in the bull-fight at the beginning, however the development from their shows a truly meaningful attribute of Kelly’s writing.

I really enjoyed the narrative because it involves many aspects of country lifestyle and its portrayal is not derailing any perspectives of country lifestyle. Whitley and Layton use their broken hearts to their advantage as although they are broken and hurt the electricity and fire between them is just amazing through their chemistry.

I think I read this in less than a day, probably only a few hours. To be honest though its one of those books that you can return to over and over again and it still makes your heart flutter when you read it. I love that Reed and Courtney have their own tale called ‘Broken Dreams’ coming in Spring 2014. I think I will fall in love with their story too.

Overall, it was a WOWZA of a book. I loved it so much. The novel dealt with issues that everyone goes through and was able to develop Whitley and Layton in away that is truly remarkable and special. Huge praise to Kelly Elliott, it is a remarkable book about looking past feeling broken and having renewed hope in life and keeping promises.
