The emotional and unforgettable new romance from the New York Times bestselling author of the On Dublin Street series.
Alexa Holland’s father was her hero—until her shocking discovery that she and her mother weren’t his only family. Ever since, Alexa has worked to turn her life in a different direction and forge her own identity outside of his terrible secrets,. But when she meets a man who’s as damaged by her father’s mistakes as she is, Alexa must help him.
Caine Carraway wants nothing to do with Alexa’s efforts at redemption, but it’s not so easy to push her away. Determined to make her hate him, he brings her to the edge of her patience and waits for her to walk away. But his actions only draw them together and, despite the odds, they begin an intense and explosive affair.
Only Caine knows he can never be the white knight that Alexa has always longed for. And when they’re on the precipice of danger, he finds he’ll do anything to protect either one of them from being hurt again…

In not to many words and a shy voice I hadn’t read Samantha Young’s books before reading her latest release HERO. However on a strict you-must law set by a good friend of mine who absolutely adores Samantha’s books I picked up Hero as I had heard an enormity of raves about it. AND. Holly smokes wasn’t disappointed one bit, from the very beginning the writing, expression of character and the withering grips of the narrative sucked me right in and it made university studies a very hard task, when I was itching to just pick up my kindle to read some more.
Alexa meets Caine on a photography job she is assisting; unbeknown to Caine their past is connected and haunted with scars and Alexa somewhat drops the connect leaving Caine ambushed and out of depth. Caine’s persona was very the tough guy with a broken heart from his upbringing, and at every turn and twist we see Caine push Alexa away no matter how determined she is to make a mends and help him. At every obstacle these two faced whether it be Caine’s irrational need to make Alexa hate him but toying with humiliation, belittlement and treating her like dirt, the art of beauty within the words of Samantha Young has these two characters building and breaking the norm and the walls of their heart at every corner.
“You’re the one real thing in my life right now … You should know I don’t want to let that go.”
― Samantha Young, Hero
The boil to the kettle of heat exchanged grows from the hatred/unknown to the passion of chemistry seemingly branching an agreement from both Alexa and Caine to let the steam roll and let the passion ignite with a strictly sex relationship built. The depth of the characters within the strictly-sex relationships always tend to root to a deeper core and there were million questions of will they or won’t they develop more feelings? Express those feelings? Will their past define them? It was truly an emotional upheaval whilst experiencing the bounds and keys to Alexa and Caine’s budding friendship; the loss, the heartbreak and the raw emotion expressed in Samantha’s writing was a testament to character flaws and the passion of believability the stands from romance in the current age.
“I felt decadently shameful as I lay open to his perusal.
For no other man who I have let myself be so vulnerable.
But for Caine I was sexy, sinful… seductive.”
― Samantha Young, Hero
The tragedy of unforeseen pain and hurt, the face of admitting feelings and the line between wanting more and the connecting bound by two hearts grabs you in as Caine and Alexa fight to define what they want. I read this book having never experienced the wisdom and heart of Samantha Young’s writing and truly was blown away by the power of her words and the character formation and depth of Caine and Alexa’s narrative. The armour of the heart is always perfection within telling a story and Caine having struggled and built a legacy for himself, had a persona of being harsh and mean at times but beneath it a true man who had a heart worth loving. The bound spiral of exquisite chemistry with a bewitchment and testament of heart was intense, shocking at times and heartbreaking at times but woven with the heart of the two characters made it the best read.

I’m a 28 year old contemporary and paranormal romance author with 21 titles to my name so far. I love anything that allows me to be creative which means I love my family a whole heck of a lot. They’ve put up with my stories, a number of forced bedroom redecorations, singing, artwork, messy art supplies, a failed attempt at learning guitar, whiny emo music, two house moves (and redecoration) that they should have let me get on with myself but are far too nice to have done so, and a level of sarcasm they only have themselves to blame for since they raised me that way …
As a young girl I never imagined in a million years I’d get to spend my hours day dreaming up stories for myself and other people to enjoy. Much to my delight and amazement there are readers out there who can relate to my dry humour, my mad worlds, and all my heroes and heroines who sometimes do the saving and sometimes just need to be saved. Moreover readers seem to love my home country as much as I do. If I didn’t already love my readers for supporting me, I’d love them for loving Scotland. I’m quite attached to the place.
I find my inspiration in many places but one of the most important is in the world of music. Artists such as The Killers, Amy Macdonald, Biffy Clyro, Birdy, MS MR, The Airborne Toxic Event, Alex Winston, Florence + the Machine, Imagine Dragons, Carolina liar, Arcade Fire, Bastille, The Black Keys, Ingrid Michaelson, Paolo Nutini, Metric, The Naked & the Famous, The National, We Are Scientists, White Lies, The Steeldrivers, Olin & the Moon, The Rumour Said Fire, Rihanna, Bruno Mars, Pink, Lana Del Ray, Mumford & Sons, Matchbox Twenty, The Lumineers, La Rocca, Butterfly Boucher and many more inspire the heck out of me.
