Can you strongly want to yell at (used with love of course) an author for writing a book that at the end you’re mind is empty or screaming at the same time. The Rhythm of my Heart is the debut novel by Velvet Reed and I have no words. The beauty that was written on every page, blows me away. Cole and Grace met under distress after Grace’s niece falls and Grace takes her to the hospital. Swoon worthy Cole is the doctor who attends to them and man of the book I must say.

The dynamic and chemistry that Velvet intertwined sweepingly through the narrative leaves heartbreak, love in having a tight knit supportive family and just a breathtaking beautiful book hangover that will have you thinking about the book for days. As a debut Australian author, Velvet has done wonders in her debut ‘The Rhythm of my Heart ‘, I implore you to go and purchase this book and show your support to the truly wonderful and magnificent Velvet. A no brainer for me DEFINITELY 5 STARS! Hit all the right cords, strung my heart like floss and the end to DIE for! (Literally, I am still recovering)

EXCERPT:

With our bodies aligned perfectly together, we dance; swaying along with the music as it changes and the start of “Heartbeat” by Enrique Iglesias penetrates through the room. This song is perfect because not only is my heart racing, but I can feel Cole’s beating wildly against my back. The lyrics speak volumes; Cole is already stealing my heart… I can feel it.

So lost in the song, it takes me a second to realize that my hair has been pulled to the side and Cole’s lips are peppering soft wet kisses along my neck and shoulder.

Goosebumps break out across my skin and desire ripples its way through my system. His touch is all-consuming and by God, I want and need to be consumed. “Grace,” he whispers as he kisses and licks my ear lobe. As everything around us fades away, Cole’s arms engulf my body completely so that there isn’t even a millimeter of space between us. His hungry lips assault mine and I can feel the need radiating off him in waves. Our lips part, our tongues meet and embrace, dancing with each other in the confines of our mouths.

His taste is exquisite and his technique exceptional as he takes control of the kiss. I vaguely register his hands roaming my body as my fingers tangle further into his hair, pushing his head closer to mine. I don’t know how long we stand there so completely wrapped up in each other, but when we both pull back, our chests are heaving and our breathing labored.

Cole leans forward and rests his forehead against mine. My eyes close as I relish the sweet gesture. “Most spectacular first kiss ever, Sweet Cheeks.”

My heart swells at the comment and his new name for me. I really like it. “I couldn’t agree with you more,” I simply reply, knowing I will always remember this moment forever.

Dear Kelly’s talents never seize to amaze me. Every book. It’s beyond my expectations. I drop everything the moment they are released to read Kelly’s books. I am never disappointed either. Unconditional Love by the Kelly Master of swooning was no different. Dear, Lark can you pop up into my life somewhere please and swoop me off my feet. Lark and Azurdee have electric chemistry and from the very beginning Lark just has that swoon effect. Totally should be named the Kelly’s Swoon Effect.

The narrative is breathtaking, like words to a page; Kelly can truly give reader moments of sheer tears and absolute fit your pants laughter all in one book. Unconditional Love is one for the military hearts, the ones whose love ones are away from them and the unconditional love that binds couples. Hello? Jessie?”

“What did you just ask me?” she said.

I chuckled. “After your first time. Were
you sore?”

Then she screamed. Right in my ear.
“Azurdee! You and Lark? Oh. My. God. Was it good?

I mean, I know it hurts at first, but after that? How many times did y’all? Was he sweet to you?

That bastard better have been sweet to you! Was it hot? Oh my God, tell me everything!”

I laughed as I made my way downstairs. I saw about a half dozen people out back cleaning up the rest of the reception.

I love traveling, flip-flops, manicures, sexy words, chocolate and reading. My writing tends to be dark, emotional, and often extremely gritty. I enjoy tapping into topics that are difficult to discuss, but that people can relate to on some level.

Can you tell us something that not a lot of people know about you?

I eat a whole pineapple almost every day. It’s a strange addiction, I know.

Where did the idea for Pulled Beneath come from?

I’ve always been fascinated with the decisions people make when they’ve been affected by tragedy. Whether they reach for substances, communicate their feelings, or they bury into the deepest, darkest hole. When I decided to explore all three, Pulled Beneath was born.

How is Saint similar and/or different compared to other heroes in romance books?

Saint’s past is extremely harrowing and shadowy. His darkness is layered and within those layers he’s learned some valuable lessons, he just doesn’t realize their importance. He doesn’t set out to be the hero. He doesn’t even think someone like him could ever be a hero. But when he meets someone who is as emotionally damaged as him, he finds out those lessons can make a difference.

Tell us a little about your writing process. Any pre-writing rituals or routines?

Once an idea comes to me, things tend to move pretty quickly. I create a brief outline, which I share with my editor to make sure my points and loops all mesh, and then I start writing. It usually takes me about six weeks to finish the first draft. Music is always playing and the beats change for each book. Water, iced tea or Diet Coke is within reach.

When you create your characters do you ever put bits of either your personality or bits of personalities from people close to you?

Always. It happens naturally and I often don’t realize it until I finish the first draft. There’s a part of me in every heroine and I find myself revealing a bit more of my personality, my past and experiences with each book. I don’t write about people I know, I write about people I want to meet.

What are some good books you’ve read lately?

I’m obsessed with the Songs of Submission Series by C.D. Reiss. I also recently read Veiled Innocence by Ella Frank and I loved it. Actually, I love anything Ella Frank writes.

If you could collaborate with another author in writing a book, who would it be?

Tarryn Fisher. She has a brilliant mind and she’s an epic storyteller.

I’m a New Englander at heart and now a Floridian, inspired by the sandy beaches and hot pink sunsets of Sarasota. As a writer of erotic romance, new adult and literary fiction, I tap a mainstream appeal and shake worldwide taboos, taking my readers on a dark, harrowing, and breathtaking journey. When I’m not nose deep in my laptop, I’m scouring for chocolate, traveling, reading, or walking my four-legged children.

~Review~

Finding your independence away from your family is never easy. In Breaking Fences by Juliana Haygert, we are introduced to Bia a driven young lady who goes off to college in the hope to find her place in the world outside of the shadows of her brothers and their polo careers.

I adored reading this novel for many reasons. It was unique in it’s own right than other books I have read. Bia was a beautiful and remarkable character with charm and poise throughout everything she went through and all the obstacles that challenged her to give up.

Step foot into the introduction of the stud making me smitten with love with this novel. Garrett from the very beginning was heart-warming and the connection, fit of chemistry with Bia was beautiful to read. I admire the narratives growth and unique ability to bring different cultural beliefs into a tale of heart and strength, as it was believable and relevant. I generally felt the consensus of the book was beautifully written, however would have enjoyed a little bit more at the very end.

All embracing the novel was beautiful in it’s romantic spark, its heart-breaking moments of truth & hurt. Horses played a major roles and I could easily swoon over horses any day. Bia’s sanctuary is with horses, and Garrett charmed the pants off of me. I can’t wait to read more from the author. This is the second book in the series but can be read as a standalone. 5 magnificently glorious stars. X

I have to admit, I hadn’t heard of When It Rain’s the first installment in the Rain series until I pondered onto Changing Forever (Rain #2).

Boy was I missing out.

Lisa De Jong strung out emotion after emotion whilst I read Changing Forever. Emery and Drake’s narrative was a sonnet of raw flawless emotion and heart; first off it was a little weird to read.. my last name is Drake so that was fun because I didn’t think the name Drake was popular.

Moving on, the narrative was crawl into a ball and cry, smile with joy and a bundle of emotional feelings all in one. It hits all the right holes in one. Breathtaking, heartbreaking, strung with a book hangover was what I had. It was flawless in it’s ability to create headstrong and gorgeous characters that rope every emotion to your width end whilst reading.

I don’t give any spoilers away. It’s not me. He closed the gap between us and was now so close he was pushing the limits of my personal space. Looking at me, he reached for my hand and pulled it away from my mouth. “You’re not a good liar, Cara.”

The warmth from his touch shot straight through to my core, awakening every nerve ending in my body, making goose bumps prick my skin. I prayed that he didn’t notice the reaction my body had to his simple touch but by the way he just grinned, I’m guessing he did. I turned my head to avoid him when he grabbed my chin and lifted it up. Firmly, he held it in place giving me no choice but to lock eyes with him. The pad of his thumb seductively brushed across my bottom lip and before I knew what was happening his lips were on mine. Releasing my chin, he slipped his hand behind my neck while his other hand wrapped around my waist and pulled me closer. I felt his tongue against my lips, asking permission to enter and I gave it to him. Swathing my arms around his neck, he entered with a desperate yearning and I accepted every reckless caress he gave.

As quickly as it started it ended. Cam pulled back, short of breath, and rested his forehead on mine. “So you forgive me then?”

I giggled, “Yeah, I guess so.”

“You guess so?” He said has he pulled back a bit. “Stop denying it, Firecracker, you know you can’t resist this,” motioning to his body as he grinned playfully, “I can tell by the way you react to my touch.” He slid his finger down my collarbone, leaving yet another trail of goose bumps in its wake. I hated the fact that he was right. Since the moment I saw him last night all I’ve been able to think about is him. Still, I wasn’t sure I was ready for any sort of relationship, my past was still lingering in the back of my mind and I wasn’t ready to face it. Trying to fight my body’s reaction I tensed up and opened my mouth to speak. “Shhh…” he said as he reached up with his other hand and cradled my face, tilting it to the side so he had better access. Tracing the deep v-neck of my shirt with his finger, he leaned down and whispered, “Relax, don’t deny it, just feel it.” Closing my eyes, I started to get lost in his touch.

I am a new adult contemporary author that is currently working on my first novel, Promise Me Always. I am a wife, mother of 2 amazing kiddos, photographer and owner at K23 Photography & Design, graphic designer and cover designer at K23 Designs, as well as an avid reader and blogger at A Book Whores Obsession! I have been married since 2004 to the most amazing man ever and together we have two amazing children.

I was born in Aurora, CO and still reside their today with my amazing family. I couldn’t imagine living anywhere else in the world. I have become accustom to bi-polar weather living here and I absolutely love getting all four seasons (although winters could be a bit shorter.)

I have a small obsession with Starbucks and gummy bears! They make the perfect writing snack! Wine helps a lot too especially with the late night writing sessions. I love the summer and everything that goes along with it, camping, swimming, boating, hiking, etc. I love to travel and Disneyland is one of my family’s favorite places to visit together. Micah sees Reign for the first time

Sitting down on a park bench, I stare up at the colors of the fading sky. The bursting orange and yellows mix together like one big orgasm. I appreciate the natural beauty for a while, until something, okay, someone, more captivating graces my view.

A young woman, lost in thought, walks barefoot across the sea wall made of white pebbles separating sand from sea. With the poise of a gymnast, her body shivers with each step against the ocean breeze. Her cute blue dress with floral prints flares modestly just below her knees. She pays no attention to anything else around her, unaware of how my eyes are trained on her every move.

As the setting sun slants across her tanned legs, she pauses for a beat. Flipping straight light brown hair off her shoulders, strands falling elegantly down her back. I love long hair on girls. The smell (that’s if it’s clean, I’ve had instances where it wasn’t), the feel, and the texture. Caught up, I lean forward, my gaze fixed on nothing but her. Turn. How I wish she’d turn around so I could see her face. Even my heart begins to thud with anticipation.

Finally, as if hearing me, she twists. Her attention riveted on something out on the street to her left. Oh c’mon, turn toward me. The sun will be gone in minutes. She swivels, fully around this time. I’m breathless as I catch a glimpse. I could see she’s beautiful, but not in a shallow way. Something about her intrigues me.

So what am I doing? Why am I just sitting here watching her?

Snapping back to my senses, I spring from the bench and start to walk over to her, hoping she won’t run away when I tell her how angelic she is before my eyes. Jeez. That’s corny as hell, but I don’t care. I have to talk to this girl.

I’m almost there when the loud beep-beep of a car draws her attention. She twirls and I stop in my tracks. A wide smile spreads across her pink lips, and like an idiot, I convince myself she’s actually smiling at me. Realization bites me on the ass when she hurries past me like I’m invisible, heading for the red jeep parked on the side of the street waiting for her.

She didn’t see me. Like seriously?

I stand in place and watch as she climbs inside the jeep, shuts the door, and the driver takes off. Now I feel like crap, because I wasted time and missed the chance to talk to her. I wonder if I’ll ever see her again.

With hunched shoulders, I walk up the sand onto the grass and sit back on the bench, dumping grains out of my flip-flops.

A lone gull scampers across the sand. A bright moon rises in the sky. I run my fingers through my already messy hair and start to laugh. Dude, why did you get so riled up? That girl’s simply another pretty face. How many have I seen these last few months? Why should I care?

I meet, we hook-up, and I move on.

The last thing I’m looking for is a girlfriend. I’m a no commitments type of guy. None of them ever took the guilt away, anyways.

But it’s crazy, how I feel. From just one look, my gut says that girl is worth getting to know. Maybe someone I wouldn’t mind sticking around for.
